JSM ORGANICS
Watsonville, CA

FOCUS: Farm Insurance & Work Compensation
Bilingual Field Day! (En ingles y español)

As injuries can and do happen on the farm, it’s important for both the farm employer and the worker to be prepared. One of the most useful tools to help prepare farmers in the event of a worker injury is workers' compensation.

Join us at JSM Organics where farmer Javier Zamora will speak on the topic of workers' compensation, an insurance program designed to protect employers from liability lawsuits while providing employees with compensation for their injuries. When employees have workers' compensation available, they must use the program and cannot sue the employer even if the employer (in this case, the farm) caused the injury. For these reasons, workers' compensation is a valuable resource as it protects the farm business from lawsuits and provides coverage for the injured worker.

This event is FREE and open to all farmers, farmworkers, farm interns and students of Ag. RSVP encouraged. Farm tour and conversation will conclude with a casual networking potluck happy hour. Feel free to bring something to share.

ABOUT THE FARM: JSM Organics is a diverse, organic-certified farm in Royal Oaks. Breaking ground in 2012 with virtually no capital or hired labor, farmer Javier Zamora began planting seeds that would eventually grow his business that now offers a wide variety of organic products. Coming from humble farming origins in Mexico, Javier focuses on revitalizing a sense of community that has largely diminished in the modern farming industry through charitable food donations and hands-on farm education. JSM is a multi-faceted farm that specializes in strawberries but also grows blackberries, apples, pears, flowers, and a variety of vegetables. Javier and his employees are focused on providing not only a higher quality product, but also a higher quality farmer-to-customer experience. This is achieved through dedication to their surrounding community and commitment to a more ethically driven sense of farm management.
