The Farmers Guild Scholarship Fund
With the average age of the American farmer reaching 60 and the dire need for innovative new methods to grow food more sustainably, the best way we can insure the future of our food, communities and planet is to assure that we have an educated, creative and thoughtful new generation of farmers. Lucky for us, not only is there a resurgence of young people passionate about agriculture, but there is a growing number of educational opportunities, from farm schools to agricultural business workshops to whole conferences dedicated entirely to sustainable farming. But unlike some career paths, these farmers-to-be have a tough road ahead of them and, even once they establish their own enterprise, the financial pay-offs are rarely comparable to other professions. But their work and commitment to feeding us is imperative.
The Farmers Guild Scholarship Fund works to sustain sustainable agriculture by offering financial assistance to farmers and ranchers for continued education in the fields of land stewardship, animal husbandry, marketing, soil science, business planning, water conservation and other skills that promote their success as food producers.

While education is the first key to success, in order to maintain that knowledge we must provide supportive communities through which these farmers can stay informed, network and continue finding the necessary resources to thrive. By participating in their local agricultural community, farmers not only find support but but that education also spreads to their peers. To multiply the effect of these scholarships, we ask that all applicants join and take full advantage of their local Guild.
These scholarships seek to support farmers and ranchers of all ages, all experience levels and all forms of agriculture--however we prioritize working or professionally aspiring farmers over homesteaders, gardeners and educators of other kinds. |
