  The Farmers Guild

The Winning Farmers of Our Pizza Topping Contest!

BEST IN SHOW
Annie Hehner, Leap Frog Farm of Guinda, CA
Yolo Farmers Guild

Annie's organic greens and goat cheese, paired with beef bacon from her friends at True Grass, won the judges' hearts! Find Annie at the Larkspur Farmers Market, Saturdays 9-2 and at the Davis Farmers Market, Wednesdays 4:30-8:30pm. The Farmers Guild will partner with Woodfour Breweryfor an evening pairing of Annie's finest produce.

MOST INDULGENT
Aaron Gilliam, Thistle Meats of Petaluma, CA
Sebastopol Farmers Guild

Keep an eye out for the "guilded" pig trophy, soon to grace the counter of this new artisan butcher shop serving fine, local, ethically-raised meats.

BEST COLLABORATION
Michelle Benson, Redwood Hill Farm, Sebastopol
Sebastopol Farmers Guild

To pair with cheese from the goats she milks each morning, Michelle reached out to fellow guilders Tom Hammond for walnuts and Aubrey Maze for honey, creating savory/sweet perfection. At the next Guild, A Johnny's Seeds gift card awaits you.

MOST WHOLESOME
Ben Lyons, Lockwood Acres, Vacaville, CA
Yolo Farmers Guild

Ben arrived from Solano County not only with an array of his produce, but with his own dough made with Sonora White Wheat flower. A Farmers Guild t-shirt should look good atop that tractor.

MOST CREATIVE
Ruthie King, Grange Farm School, Willits, CA
Mendocino Farmers Guild

Sustainable farming, or so Ruthie teaches her students, begins with creativity. Winning with a chicken heart pizza should prove her point. A few packages of Zazu's house-cured bacon should help to keep classroom morale high.

Last night crowds flocked outside the FEED Sonoma loading dock in Sebastopol, CA, while nearly two dozen farmers, ranchers and local food artisans from across northern California arrived with boxes full of produce, cheese and local meats to try their hand at the first-ever Farmers Guild topping contest. One by one, pizzas emerged from a cob-fire oven crafted by Living Earth Structures, then went sliding across a table as our panel of judges met the grower, learned where the ingredients came from, how they were grown, and where they could find them. It was a long night, with live music keeping the energy up and hundreds of passerby stopping by to browse tables full of CSA brochures, farm tour invites and info on how to support local farmers. By the end, judges left stuffed and our farmers left cheered. Thanks for coming!
