In October of 2017 we faced devastating fires in Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino Counties—a disaster that took dozens of lives, destroyed thousands of homes, displaced over 100,000 people, burned farms to the ground and scorched over 200,000 acres of this place we love.

In response, a diverse coalition of community-based organizations* came together to establish the Just and Resilient Futures Fund. Resources from this fund will be provided to victims of fires, especially those suffering losses not covered by insurance or traditional relief services, and to support initiatives that build more just, healthy, and resilient communities and that better prepare us for future catastrophe.

Grassroots community-based organizations are essential to ensuring that recovery efforts reflect the diverse needs of our community now and in the future. Another World is Possible is a tested coalition representing a broad cross-section of North Bay groups--from family farms to environmentalists to immigrants--focused on civic engagement and cross-pollination. We benefit from strong partnerships with local and regional non-profits, government agencies, faith institutions, family businesses, schools and more.

Disbursement of funds will be directed by representatives from Another World is Possible with immediate focus on relief funds for those fire victims who were already living on the margins. Over the longer-term, funds will be made available for initiatives focused on disaster relief and preparedness from local non-profit organizations, including coalition organizations, that work to build inclusive, healthy, networked and resilient communities.

​CORE PRINCIPLES OF THE FUND:

1) Place Equity at the Center: Assure that disaster relief efforts focus on community members already at a social and economic disadvantage and that preparedness efforts promote equity in the face of future disaster.
2) Build People Power: Design disaster relief and preparedness efforts that empower local, grassroots communities to better help themselves and each other.
3) Connect the Dots: Build and support the grassroots networks that connect diverse stakeholders, skills and services, ensuring effective communication and collaboration in the event of disaster.

*The North Bay Fire Recovery Fund is currently held under the Rose Foundation 501(c)3 and all donations are tax-deductible. Allocation of funds will be overseen by a coalition of diverse, local organizations including: The Farmers Guild, Community Alliance with Family Farmers, North Bay Organizing Project, Daily Acts, the School Box Project, Arlene Francis Center, Sebastopol Grange, Sierra Club Redwood Chapter and Conservation Action.
