Jetsetter probably doesn’t first come to mind when you think farmers. But every two years thousands of farmers, food producers, chefs, and advocates from around the world travel to Turin, Italy for an epic gathering of food communities and the world’s largest food and wine fair, Slow Food’s Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto. Official delegates selected from over 100 countries unite to share traditional knowledge, cutting-edge ideas and, of course, their food! Sound familiar? Each of our guilds revolves around a similar principle of building stronger food communities through our shared enthusiasm and resources.
Because joy and justice is at the core of both Slow Food and the Farmers Guild, it made perfect sense to encourage Guild members to apply. And Slow Food agreed. Out of hundreds of applicants, this October nine Guild members from the Mendocino, Mendocino Coast, Santa Cruz, Sebastopol, and Yolo Farmers Guilds will be travelling half way around the world to share what they know, and bring wisdom from around the globe back to their own local Guild.

Have questions about how Italian farmers are adapting the varieties that they are growing to handle a warming climate? How are farmers in Africa and Southeast Asia increasing revenue through co-branding efforts? How can nomads and Alpine herders change how we think about grazing? Tell us what you want to know. We’ll be sharing what we learn along the way, keeping you updated and making sure that each Guild gets a report when our delegates are back stateside.
| Who knew 6 months ago that the Guild could us to Italy? I’m inspired to dream big, and hope that you will too. Where can your Guild to take you? -- Tiffany Nurrenbern |
